The 5th International Joint Conference
on Hospitality & Tourism 2025
(5th IJCHT-25)

Message From Conference Chair

It is my great pleasure to welcome you all to the 5th International Joint Conference on Hospitality & Tourism (IJCHT 2025) here in Songkhla, a city that may not be as widely recognized as Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Krabi, or Phuket, but holds a unique charm and remarkable potential. While the spotlight often shines on the major cities, the true allure of Thailand lies in its smaller towns, and Songkhla is a testament to this hidden gem.

Songkhla’s vibrant cultural landscape, its rich ethnic diversity, and its captivating daily life offer a distinctive essence that sets it apart. This is a city undergoing significant transformation, and its recent development, including co-hosting the 2025 SEA Games, serves as an exciting opportunity for generational change. Songkhla embodies the very spirit of growth and resilience, making it the perfect backdrop for our conference.

The theme of this year’s conference emphasizes the role of citywide events like the SEA Games in catalyzing transformation—not only for the host city, but also for the broader tourism, hospitality, and MICE sectors. Over the next 9 months, we will explore how such events can shape a more diverse, inclusive, and sustainable future for our industry.

As we come together as scholars, experts, and practitioners, I look forward to engaging in discussions, innovative ideas, and meaningful collaborations that will contribute to the future of hospitality and tourism.

Once again, welcome to Songkhla. Let’s embark on this journey of discovery and transformation together.

Thank you.
Dr. Songsin Teerakunpisut
Conference Chair of the 5th IJCHT 2025
Director of Songkhla Convention and Exhibition Bureau (SCEB), Prince of Songkla University

Pre Conference Workshop

On the 9th of March 2025, Associate Professor Dr. Ann Ashton, one of the distinguished speakers at IJCHT 2025, launched a hands-on wellness workshop for the locals in Songkhla ahead of the conference. This pre-conference event highlighted how wellness practices can significantly enhance the quality of life for conference attendees, promoting both physical and mental well-being.

About Songkhla Convention and Exhibition Bureau, Prince of Songkla University

As the MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conventions, and Exhibitions) industry grew and became a significant revenue opportunity for Songkhla province, in 2020, Mr. Charuwat Kliangklao, the Governor of Songkhla, pushed for the establishment of the Songkhla Convention and Exhibition Bureau (SCEB), under the support of Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (TCEB). He appointed Assist. Prof. Dr. Niwat Kaewpradub, the President of Prince of Songkla University (PSU), to lead the establishment of this central agency, working with partners to promote and develop the MICE industry in Songkhla and surrounding areas.

SCEB has been nominated for inclusion in the global MICE destination organization roster, demonstrating its commitment to fostering long-term economic legacies for cities through the facilitation of business events. This recognition has been promoted by leading international MICE industry agencies, including the GDS-Movement and #MEET 4IMPACT since 2024. SCEB’s operations have played a crucial role in stimulating the construction of large-scale convention centers, privately funded, to support international conferences and exhibitions. This marks a significant moment in the history of the MICE industry in Songkhla and also led to the establishment of the PSU MICE City Institute.

About Songkhla MICE City, Thailand

In 2020, Songkhla was officially recognized as a MICE City by the Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (TCEB). It is one of only 10 cities in Thailand to establish a Convention Bureau, the Songkhla Convention and Exhibition Bureau (SCEB), which aims to elevate the province as an international MICE hub. This initiative, driven by collaboration between local businesses and Prince of Songkla University, has positioned Songkhla as a leader in sustainable MICE development. In 2024, Songkhla ranked 3rd in Asia and 34th globally in the Global Destination Sustainability Index (GDS-Index). The province is home to the largest convention center in southern Thailand and continues to grow, with a high standard of MICE venues and plans for even larger exhibition spaces. In 2024, Songkhla attracted 427,598 MICE travelers, generating 1.36 billion baht in revenue and creating 11,541 jobs. With upcoming international events, such as the 5th International Joint Conference on Hospitality & Tourism 2025, Songkhla is further solidifying its global MICE reputation. Additionally, Songkhla is pioneering citywide events, planning four international festivals to create over 1.5 billion baht in revenue. With cutting-edge security standards, Songkhla is also the first Southeast Asian city to seek ISO 22379:2022 certification, aiming to become a top destination for large international events.
